DZ BANK Selects IONA Artix™ for SOA Governance

Artix Registry/Repository Selected for Unique 'Active' Governance Capabilities

DUBLIN, Ireland & WALTHAM, Mass. - November 5th, 2007 - IONA® Technologies (NASDAQ: IONA), a world leader in distributed service-oriented architecture (SOA) infrastructure solutions for performance-demanding IT environments, today announced that DZ BANK, a leading international bank with European headquarters in Frankfurt, Germany, has selected Artix™ Registry/Repository to actively govern the use of services across the company's distributed SOA.

DZ BANK's selection of Artix Registry/Repository follows the successful deployment of Artix Enterprise Service Bus (ESB) and Artix Orchestration, and expands the organization's use of Artix advanced SOA infrastructure components as the foundation for their distributed SOA environment. The bank is utilizing SOA principles to better integrate the company's existing IT infrastructure and speed the rollout of new products and services to its diverse customer base.

Having accomplished the first milestone of their Service-oriented Platform (SOP) deployment, DZ BANK is introducing an effective governance solution to help ensure the ongoing success of the project. Due to the scope of their SOA implementation, DZ BANK needed a Registry/Repository product that could help the company define, promote and measure the reuse of services deployed across their SOA infrastructure. Following an extensive evaluation Artix Registry/Repository was selected for its unique 'active' governance capabilities.

"For a project such as our SOP, where development and deployment of services in different divisions and geographies is ongoing, we need a governance solution that offers significantly more than a mere static registry of services," said Burkhard Oppenberg, Head of IT Division, DZ BANK. "With Artix Registry/Repository we have the ability to validate the new services we create against existing policies and see how they will fit into our SOA infrastructure prior to deployment. As importantly, we can also use this technology to truly measure the value of deployed services across their entire lifecycle. As we extend the available network of services, SOA governance is imperative to ensure effective and economic reuse and compliance."

Artix Registry/Repository delivers the fundamental requirements for applying SOA governance and addresses the challenges of deploying and managing a truly distributed SOA. The product makes it significantly easier for Global 2000 customers to govern the proper use of services and validate service deployments against architectural design and service policies. By capturing and storing the metadata associated with deployed services, Artix Registry/Repository provides customers with important visibility into the return on investment of their SOA implementation.

As with all products in the Artix family, Artix Registry/Repository fully supports the ability to adopt the technology incrementally, an important feature for DZ BANK. As the number of available services in the SOA network increases, DZ BANK can easily extend the use of Artix Registry/Repository and fully support any number of disparate service enablement technologies.

"As competition and regulatory requirements intensify within the financial services sector, SOA deployments are maturing to a level where governance is vital for long-term service management and reuse across the entire SOA lifecycle," said Peter Zotto, CEO, IONA Technologies. "We are delighted that DZ BANK has extended its investment in Artix and selected our active governance capabilities as they continue the rollout of services across their SOA."
