IONA Boosts Enterprise Performance of FUSE™ Open Source SOA Product Offering

FUSE Message Broker updated for mission-critical deployment and enterprise-wide scalability; significant enhancements across the product family support incremental adoption

DUBLIN, Ireland & WALTHAM, Mass. - September 24, 2007 - IONA® Technologies (NASDAQ: IONA), a world leader in distributed service-oriented architecture (SOA) infrastructure solutions for performance-demanding IT environments today released a new version of its FUSE™ family of open source SOA products. FUSE is IONA's tested, certified, and warranted open source product family based on popular projects hosted by the Apache Software Foundation. IONA provides professional support, consulting and training for enterprise customers looking to deploy open source SOA technology in mission-critical business applications.

The release includes enhancements to each of the FUSE product offerings: FUSE ESB, FUSE Message Broker, FUSE Services Framework and FUSE Mediation Router. Specifically, performance is improved across the board, new features and functionality added and the integration between the FUSE ESB and other components of the product family is strengthened.

FUSE Message Broker, based on Apache ActiveMQ, has been updated to deliver better performance under various messaging scenarios; including large-scale message processing required by the most demanding enterprise IT environments. New enterprise features include a new model for message persistence, a new high performance message store, and features to optimize performance in mission-critical deployments.

FUSE Mediation Router is now included within FUSE Message Broker to easily define and execute messaging processes based on standard Enterprise Integration Patterns. FUSE Mediation Router can also be used to implement processes on FUSE ESB, using lightweight rules that can be configured with familiar Enterprise Integration Patterns using standard developer tools.

"The value open source offers in terms of flexibility, reduced cost and code transparency is driving the adoption of open source projects in enterprise SOA deployments," said Larry Alston, General Manager, Open Source, IONA Technologies. "IONA is making this choice even easier for customers who require the assurance of enterprise-class support in their open source usage. With FUSE, IONA offers leading open source projects from the Apache Software Foundation as tested, certified and warranted product offerings coupled with a complete set of support, training and consulting services that enterprise customers have come to expect from established software vendors."

IONA FUSE open source products are designed for incremental adoption, vendor-neutral deployment and compatibility through industry standards, to provide distributed SOA solutions without the constraints of proprietary technology stacks and vendor-specific platforms. Components can be deployed together or independently and in conjunction with leading open source and commercial enterprise technologies, offering unrivalled flexibility. IONA FUSE supports and extends the approach to distributed SOA pioneered by the IONA Artix suite of commercially licensed SOA products. In addition to all-open-source deployments, IONA FUSE solutions are frequently deployed in conjunction with components of the IONA Artix Suite, including the Artix Registry/Repository, Artix Orchestration, Artix Data Services and Artix ESB.

Further product information is available at the FUSE community Web site at http://open.iona.com. The site also offers discussion forums, wikis, tutorials, sample applications and documentation designed to help users at all stages of their FUSE adoption.

"With adoption of open source continuing at pace, it is crucial that enterprises understand how it fits within their overall technology portfolio," said Stephen O'Grady, Principal Analyst with RedMonk. "In addition to evaluating the technology itself, enterprises need to consider the availability and quality of certification and professional services and support."
