DZ BANK Selects IONA'a Artix for SOA Foundation
Leading International Bank Leverages Artix to Modernize IT Systems and Respond to Changing Business Requirements
DUBLIN, Ireland & WALTHAM, Mass. - May 15, 2007 - IONA® Technologies (NASDAQ: IONA), a world leader in distributed service-oriented architecture (SOA) infrastructure solutions for performance-demanding IT environments, today announced that DZ BANK, a leading international bank headquartered in Frankfurt, Germany, has selected IONA Artix™, an advanced SOA infrastructure suite, as the foundation for the financial institution's SOA deployment. Leveraging the suite's Enterprise Service Bus (ESB) and orchestration capabilities, DZ BANK is using Artix to bring together the company's existing IT infrastructure to speed the roll out of new products and services to a diverse customer base.
DZ BANK selected Artix after conducting a wide-ranging evaluation of available middleware and SOA-enablement technology. They required a product that was not only capable of utilizing existing IT investments, but also was flexible enough to support the emerging technologies and standards shaping the banking industry. Because Artix is platform and protocol agnostic, DZ BANK is able to use Artix to service enable the wide array of IT assets found throughout the company's global infrastructure. The use of Artix at the core of DZ BANK's Service-oriented Platform (SOP) will help the company simplify the roll out of new products and services to its customers, ultimately speeding time to market.
"Much like any bank, we are faced with competitive pressures and changing business requirements that can only be met by providing our customers with the new products and services upon which they insist," said Burkhard Oppenberg, Head of IT Division, DZ BANK. "Our IT infrastructure must be agile and flexible enough to allow us to quickly respond to market and customer demands, while at the same time, maximizing the investments we have already made. With Artix at the core of our SOA initiative, we are well prepared to meet the business and IT challenges ahead of us."
DZ BANK's SOP required several strategic characteristics, all of which could be delivered by the differentiated capabilities of Artix. Artix's truly distributed, plug-in architecture is particularly well suited to empower DZ BANK to lower its cost of IT ownership by allowing them to deploy only the software that is needed to achieve a specific goal without requiring significant investments in new hardware. Development costs are lowered by enabling services to be easily extended, for example, to add new enterprise qualities of service, should business requirements change. As importantly, Artix met all of DZ BANK's requirements for performance, scalability, and support for industry standards.
"The very nature of the global financial services industry has led leading companies, such as DZ BANK, to become ardent supporters and early adopters of SOA for mission-critical systems," said Peter Zotto, CEO, IONA Technologies. "We are pleased that DZ BANK selected Artix, as have many others, as the cornerstone of their SOA initiatives."
