IONA Launches Celtix Advanced Messaging
Open Source Subscription Offering Delivers Powerful, Interoperable Messaging for Distributed SOA Deployments
DUBLIN, Ireland and WALTHAM, Mass. -December 4, 2006 - IONA® Technologies (NASDAQ: IONA), a world leader in distributed service-oriented architecture (SOA) solutions for performance-demanding IT environments, today announced availability of Celtix Advanced Messaging. Utilizing code from the Apache Incubator project Qpid, this open source subscription offering from IONA is designed to deliver a technology-agnostic, standards-based, open and interoperable messaging infrastructure that can be used in distributed SOA deployments. The introduction of IONA's Celtix Advanced Messaging coincides with the launch of IONA's Celtix™ Enterprise open source Enterprise Service Bus (ESB) subscription offer (release dated December 4, 2006), and follows the company's announcement of participation in the AMQP Working Group (release dated June 20, 2006) to advance the AMQP specification and promote its standardization.
The AMQP specification, as implemented in Celtix Advanced Messaging, is a binary-level wire-format protocol that is divided into functional and transport layers and designed with a flexible, plug-in architecture that can be easily modified in response to changing technology requirements. Celtix Advanced Messaging is designed to meet the real-world requirements of mission-critical systems by supporting multiple messaging patterns including point-to-point and publish-subscribe event notification. Celtix Advanced Messaging can enable a common infrastructure, making it an ideal messaging layer for use in distributed SOA deployments. Further, the Celtix Advanced Messaging interoperable wire-level protocol is complementary to messaging application programming interfaces (APIs) such as JMS, which are also found in SOA deployments.
"Global 2000 companies are turning to SOA in an effort to streamline and modernize their IT environments while at the same time generate greater return on their IT investments and reduce the fixed cost of IT operations. That can be a difficult proposition if they are locked into building their distributed SOA environments on top of expensive, proprietary messaging systems," said Debbie Moynihan, director, Open Source Programs, IONA. "Our Celtix Advanced Messaging subscription is designed to not only provide the technology, but also a range of ongoing support, consulting, and training programs necessary to ensure our customers are able to put effective AMQP-based messaging systems to use in their strategic distributed SOA deployments."
IONA's Celtix Advanced Messaging is available via an open source subscription model that includes certified and tested code, enterprise-level support, training and consulting. Customers that deploy Celtix Advanced Messaging can rely on IONA's more than 15 years of experience in helping customers design, deploy and support mission-critical, performance demanding distributed computing systems. IONA's heritage in messaging middleware and the company's SOA expertise, in combination with the company's active participation in the advancement of the AMQP specification makes IONA uniquely qualified to support customers that are utilizing Celtix Advanced Messaging as an integral component of their distributed SOA deployments. IONA can provide customers with the services, support, and corresponding knowledge necessary to help them reduce risk, shorten development time, and generate a more rapid return on their investment.
