IONA Validates on BEA Platform to Expand Mainframe Integration Capabilities

IONA's Artix Designed to Extend BEA AquaLogic Service Bus to Mainframe Environments

SAN JOSE, Calif. & Waltham, Mass. - March 29, 2006- BEA Systems, Inc., a world leader in enterprise application infrastructure, and IONA® Technologies (NASDAQ: IONA), a world leader in high-performance integration solutions for mission-critical IT environments, today announced that Artix™ has completed the BEA Validation Program, fully demonstrating its ability to inter-operate with BEA's Weblogic Server® 9.0 and AquaLogic Service Bus™ 2.1. The validation process focused on Artix's capability to integrate AquaLogic to CICS and IMS-based mainframe environments.

As a complementary Web services-based integration technology, Artix can facilitate SOA-based integration from BEA's WebLogic Server and AquaLogic Service Bus to mainframe environments. The combination of BEA and IONA products and solutions can help enable enterprise IT organizations with multiple generations of business applications, technologies and architectures to leverage Web services-based integration software, allowing existing IT assets to work together, independent of platform. Artix provides customers using AquaLogic Service Bus with configuration-driven integration to CICS, IMS, and mainframe applications. This functionality can help them utilize existing investments in support of modern computing architectures.

"We're pleased IONA is validating on BEA to help our mutual customers deploy comprehensive SOA solutions where advanced mainframe integration is a key to overall project success," said Tony de la Lama, VP&Unit Executive of Integration Products, BEA Systems. "BEA's validation program is designed to help accelerate adoption of partners' solutions and increase market opportunities by assuring mutual customers that these partners' technology solutions are designed to integrate with our platform."

The BEA Validation Program provides a testing framework to verify the technical readiness of partner solutions that complement, operate with, or extend the BEA product portfolio. Partners can validate the integration of their software applications and solutions with BEA products or test the interoperability of Java controls and integrated development environment (IDE) extensions with BEA WebLogic Workshop.

"Mainframe applications remain critical parts of enterprise computing environments and companies are looking for new ways to utilize and extract value from them in support of emerging business and computing initiatives," explained Eric Newcomer, CTO, IONA. "Through its support for multiple protocols and data formats, plus support for the enterprise Qualities of Service required by mission-critical systems, Artix can provide an important bridge between the existing and the new, paving the way for more effective SOA deployments and greater business agility."
