Leading Telecom Software Provider Selects IONA's Artix

Evolving Systems uses Artix Extensible ESB for SOA Enablement

DUBLIN, Ireland & WALTHAM, Mass. - February 13, 2006 - IONA® Technologies (NASDAQ: IONA), a world leader in high-performance integration solutions for mission-critical IT environments, today announced that Evolving Systems, Inc. (NASDAQ: EVOL), a leading provider of software solutions and services to the wireless, wireline and IP carrier market has selected Artix™, IONA's extensible Enterprise Service Bus (ESB). Artix provides Evolving Systems' applications with the highly flexible and scalable integration capabilities required by carriers to support the adoption of Service Oriented Architecture in a telecommunications IT environment.

Evolving Systems will utilize Artix to Web service enable and deliver multi-protocol support for the company's NumeriTrack® number inventory and management application. The use of Artix in this capacity eliminates the need to build custom Web service enablement capabilities or CORBA adaptors for the application, speeding time to market and ensuring that the NumeriTrack application can be deployed in a customer's IT environment independent of existing systems, applications and infrastructure.

"Our customers' typical IT infrastructures are highly complex and comprised of multiple heterogeneous technologies. This class of IT environment presents serious challenges while deploying new applications. We turned to Artix to help ensure NumeriTrack was Web service enabled and SOA-ready," said Steve Farnsworth, Vice President of Numbering Solutions for Evolving Systems. "We have long trusted IONA's CORBA-based technology, and the company's unwavering support for the standards and protocols driving the telecommunications industry made Artix the right choice for Evolving Systems to continue to deliver quality, innovative solutions to our customers."

Artix offers Evolving Systems a small footprint and an extensible plug-in integration architecture that is highly configurable. This allows for efficient deployment in the disparate network and technology environments found throughout the telecommunications industry. In addition to providing important CORBA connectivity, Artix also supports the emerging standards, such as Parlay and the Multi-Technology Operations System Interface (MTOSI) that are becoming prevalent in carrier environments.

"Telecommunications carriers, similar to other Global 2000 companies, are looking for ways to generate better returns on their IT investments. They also need to reduce overall costs and make their IT environments much more agile and adaptable. It is no surprise Evolving Systems selected Artix, one of the industry's leading ESBs, to meet their customer objectives," said Peter Zotto, CEO, IONA Technologies. "By delivering new applications designed to be SOA-enabled, software providers such as Evolving Systems are helping to put their customers in a solid position to take real advantage of the benefits of SOA."
