RAYMOND JAMES & ASSOCIATES IMPROVES ACCESS TO CRITICAL INFORMATION WITH IONA'S ARTIX
System Provides Near Real-time Information on Municipal Bonds to RJA Traders and Sales People
Dublin, Ireland & WALTHAM, Mass - March 29, 2005 - IONA® Technologies (NASDAQ: IONA), a world leader in high-performance integration solutions for mission-critical IT environments, today announced that Raymond James & Associates, a subsidiary of Raymond James Financial has selected Artix, IONA's extensible Enterprise Service Bus (ESB), to support the financial services company's information and reporting systems. As a key component to RJA's Municipal Information, Trading and Reporting (MITeR) System, Artix enables the application to seamlessly integrate in real-time to an external data feed, significantly increasing the timeliness of information pertaining to pricing and availability of municipal bonds (Munis).
"In order to provide our clients with the best counsel about available Muni investments and for our traders to react properly to those opportunities, it is important to have available the most current and up-to-date information possible," explains Martin Kullman, vice president and manager, Fixed Income Technology, Raymond James & Associates. "Incorporating Artix into our MITeR System allowed us to leverage our current IT infrastructure to provide the near real-time access to data that our employees need to make the best decisions possible for their clients."
RJA faced one particular challenge as the company prepared to upgrade its MITeR System. The Real-Time Reporting Transaction System (RTRS) established by the Municipal Securities Rulemaking Board (MSRB) was built on IBM WebSphereMQ messaging software. RJA's MITeR System is CORBA®-based and the company needed to find a way for the fixed-format MQ messages delivered by RTRS to be used by MITeR. The multi-protocol, multi-platform support native to the Artix extensible ESB made interoperability between the two disparate systems seamless and allowed MITeR to access the RTRS data feed without issue.
"Companies like Raymond James & Associates are looking for technology solutions that allow them achieve a return on their existing IT assets and extend the use of mission-critical applications to make them even more valuable to the organization," said Peter Zotto, president and COO, IONA Technologies. "Through their use of Artix, and the product's unique plug-in approach to integration, RJA was able to add on demand information capabilities to the company's MITer system in an efficient and cost-effective manner."
