IONA APPOINTS CHIEF OPERATING OFFICER - INDUSTRY VETERAN STEVE FISCH STRENGTHENS MANAGEMENT TEAM

Technology industry executive adds operational expertise, experience and leadership

Waltham, MA -- August 15, 2002 - IONA®, the leading e-Business Platform provider for Web Services Integration (NASDAQ: IONA), today announced it has named Steve Fisch as Chief Operating Officer. Fisch has an extensive record of successful executive management in technology companies, including CEO of Virtual Access Networks, president of Attunity and ISG and senior executive positions at Computervision, Prime and McDonnell Douglas Information Systems.

As IONA's Chief Operating Officer, Fisch is responsible for all the company's operating functions, including engineering, customer services, sales, global services, global alliances, product management, and marketing.
