IONA's ORBIX E2A WINS AWARD FOR BEST OVERALL SOLUTION BASED ON XML AT XML & WEB SERVICES 2002

Waltham, MA -- March 20, 2002 - IONA®, a leading e-Business Platform provider for Web Services Integration (NASDAQ: IONA), today announced IONA's Orbix End 2 Anywhere™ Web Services Integration Platform won the "Best Overall Solution based on XML" award at the XML & Web Services 2002 conference and exhibition. In its fourth year, the prestigious Best of Show awards, sponsored by Application Development Advisor magazine, took place at the Queen Elizabeth II Conference Centre on 12th and 13th March in London, England.

IONA's Orbix E2A Web Services Integration Platform topped applications from nine other entrants to win the "Best Overall Solution based on XML" award. IONA's Orbix E2A consists of Web Service Integration software for integrating applications, information, and processes running on everything from handhelds to mainframes. IONA, along with the other exhibitors at XML & Web Services 2002, included IBM, Silverstream and Bowstreet, chose which categories in which it wished to be nominated prior to the event. Conference speakers, conference delegates and attendees then had the opportunity to cast their vote throughout the two-day exhibition, organized by 101 Communications.
