Waltham, MA - May 23, 2001 -- IONA®, the leading e-business platform provider for Total Business Integration™ (NASDAQ: IONA), today announced that IONA executives Michael Rosen, Oisin Hurley, Simon Pepper and Patrick O'Brien will be speaking at JavaOnesm, Sun's 2001 Worldwide Developer Conference, to be held June 4-8, 2001 at the Moscone Center in San Francisco, California. Experienced industry experts, Rosen, Hurley, Pepper, and O'Brien will present on a wide-range of topics including J2EE™ and enterprise e-business, the use of existing infrastructures in the development of a Web services architecture, and the development of dynamic e-business applications with J2EE.
On Monday, June 4 at 10:30 a.m., Michael Rosen, IONA's chief enterprise architect, will present "E-business Enterprise Architecture Using the Java 2 Platform, Enterprise Edition (J2EE)." Rosen will discuss J2EE, and its powerful and flexible platform for building enterprise applications. He will also explain how its flexibility presents architects with difficult decisions regarding how best to apply the different technologies. Based upon proven architecture that has aided Global 2000 companies in successfully deploying J2EE technology-based applications in the telecom, insurance and financial industries, Rosen will present to the audience his solutions for this dilemma.
IONA's Oisin Hurley, principal engineer, will present a "birds of a feather" session entitled "Exporting the Enterprise: Building an Internet Service Architecture." This session will address the shift in the Web community towards leveraging the power of existing infrastructures, such as the J2EE, CORBA and COM, in developing Web services. Hurley will reveal the need to compose these building blocks into a structured Internet-service architecture that can deal with server-side platform diversity, Internet protocol diversity and commercial quality of service. This session will take place Tuesday, June 5 at 11:00 a.m.
On Tuesday and Wednesday, June 5 & 6, Patrick O'Brien, IONA's vice president of product planning and strategy, will participate in a number of panel discussions involving the Java Community Process Executive Committee. Representing IONA on the committee, O'Brien will join fellow JCP member representatives in discussions surrounding the Java Community Process initiative and an update on the committee's progress.
On Wednesday, June 6 at 4:00 p.m., IONA's director of J2EE products, Simon Pepper will present "Choosing a Java 2 Platform, Enterprise Edition (J2EE) Compatible Application Server." Pepper will discuss with other vendors the question: "What criteria should be used when evaluating application servers that implement application programming interfaces for the J2EE platform?"
In a second session, Wednesday at 5:15 p.m., Pepper will speak about the IONA e-business platform for Total Business Integration. His session "Enterprise Portals Using Java 2 Platform, Enterprise Edition (J2EE) Technology" will highlight how IONA's e-business platform supports the creation of personalized enterprise portals, through which existing and new business information systems can be exposed to external communities. The product blends the enterprise IONA platforms using J2EE and XML technologies, with e-business components and comprehensive back-end integration. Pepper will discuss how built on IONA's patent-pending Adaptive Runtime Technology, the IONA e-business platform is the most flexible, scalable and manageable platform for building next generation business systems.
"Michael, Oisin, Simon and Patrick have been instrumental in the development of the IONA e-business platform, and their presentations will provide developers the insight and background they need to effectively utilize J2EE, XML and Web services," said Ed Gaudet, vice president of worldwide marketing at IONA. "The IONA e-business platform recognizes Web services, smart devices, and multi-tiered applications as the future of e-business, and provides the tools to create and deploy these new applications."
