IONA STRENGTHENS ITALIAN OPERATION WITH OPENING OF ROME OFFICE

Decision Highlights IONAs Success in the Italian Market; New Office to Focus on Central and Southern Italy and the Telecommunication and Government Markets

Milan, Italy - March 20, 2001 - IONA ®, the leading e-business platform provider for Total Business Integration™ (NASDAQ: IONA), today announced the opening of an office in Rome, the companys third office in Italy including Milan and Ivrea. Already operational, the Rome office will focus on the implementation of the IONA Suite™ in the telecommunication and government markets, as well as co-ordinating IONAs sales activities in Central and Southern Italy.

IONA continues its strategy of expanding its revenues by reinforcing its presence on the field. Recently, IONA announced its strategy of Total Business Integration with the IONA Suite, a comprehensive e-business platform for enterprises. The IONA Suite allows organisations to integrate existing back-office systems and new application- and business processes outside the enterprise, known as Business-to-Business Integration (B2Bi).

"Until now, IONA concentrated its Italian activities in the areas of Milan and Lombardia," said Nicola Zenesi, IONAs Country Manager for Italy. "Rome will give IONA a better Italian market penetration and will give us a more effective presence in the telecommunication and government markets, traditionally strong in the Rome area."

The Rome office will be lead by Fabio Zasso, IONAs new business development manager for Central and Southern Italy. Paolo Sacco remains the business development manager for Northern Italy. Both report directly to the Italian Country Manager Nicola Zenesi, who started IONAs Italian operations in March 1999.

Fabio Zasso is 37 years old. He comes from CPG and has experience in the telecommunication area, with expertise in project and business management. In his career, he carried out relevant projects for companies like Wind, Albacom, Ericsson and for several other organisations within the vertical telecommunications industry. Paolo Sacco is 35 years old and joined IONA in 2000. His professional experiences include projects in different areas for companies like Montepaschi, Banco San Paolo, BMW, Infostrada and Omnitel.
