IONA TECHNOLOGIES NAMES PETER LELLIOTT VICE-PRESIDENT OF SALES FOR EUROPE, MIDDLE EAST AND AFRICA

London, England, October 18, 2000 - IONA®, the Enterprise Portal Company™ (NASDAQ: IONA), today announced that Peter Lelliott has been named Vice President of Sales for Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA), effective immediately. Based in the U.K. office in London, Lelliott will focus on driving IONAs sales growth and market share in the enterprise portal market. He will lead the EMEA sales effort for IONAs new iPortal Suite™ product family, and will also work to accelerate revenue growth from professional services.

Prior to joining IONA, Lelliott spent seven years at Lotus Development Corporation,™ where he was an important part of the management team for that companys U.S. consulting organization. Lelliott grew Lotus consulting business by 40% within the last two years. Before his U.S. assignment, he held a variety of positions with Lotus in Europe with responsibility for the U.K., the Nordic countries, Benelux countries, Switzerland, the Middle East and Africa. Prior to his tenure at Lotus, Lelliott started up and ran two separate companies - a consulting company in the IT industry, and a quality control manufacturing company in the food and tobacco industry.
