ELASTIC NETWORKS STANDARDIZES ON IONA TECHNOLOGIES FOR INTERNET APPLICATIONS SERVICES PLATFORM

IONA's Orbix 2000 to Underpin the Evolution of Elastic's YesWare Internet Access Application Server

Waltham, MA. -- April 14, 2000 - Elastic Networks, Inc., today announced that they will adopt IONA Technologies' Orbix 2000™ as the architectural basis for their next generation of YesWare™ Internet access solutions.

IONA's Orbix 2000 is a CORBA 2.3 (Common Object Request Broker Architecture) middleware engine based on a new modular architecture designed for the dynamic operations of Enterprise Portals. Orbix 2000 is the foundation for IONA's iPortal Suite,™ and also provides a primary development and deployment platform that gives thousands of CORBA developers a migration path into the new world of enterprise portals.

Elastic Networks' new generation of CORBA-based YesWare applications will enable service providers to scale beyond brick and mortar-based server deployments by creating a migration path to network-based, enterprise level systems, capable of providing access solutions to many sites from a central operations center. Additionally, the Orbix 2000 platform provides the building blocks necessary to create seamless interfaces with other e-commerce and ERP systems, which will enable service providers such as Elastic to assimilate transaction information from their entire network into one enterprise system.

In addition to providing increased network flexibility for enterprise based solutions, CORBA is the technology of choice for interfacing with telecom service provider operation support systems.

The next generation of Elastic's YesWare applications based on Orbix 2000 will be generally available for shipment beginning in the third quarter of this year.

"By evolving YesWare on the Orbix 2000 platform, we will be able to reach beyond premise-based internet access and billing solutions, allowing Elastic Networks to expand our applications into the network based business-to-business market," said Michael VanPatten, senior vice president of business development at Elastic Networks. "Our partnership with IONA Technologies is a key enabler of our business expansion in this market."

"Integrated transaction management is key to our ability to scale," said David Wigglesworth, hospitality president of Darwin Networks, a rapidly growing application service provider and Elastic Networks business partner. "As we move to real-time, transaction-based enterprise systems, the flexibility and ease of integration offered by a CORBA based YesWare product is a key element to our continued growth."

"We view Elastic's adoption of Orbix 2000 as a strategic win for IONA", said Bob Wamsley, senior vice president of sales for IONA. "Our partnership with Elastic's industry leading YesWare solution expands our presence into their high growth market sector."

"Leading-edge companies like Elastic Networks continue to validate the success of IONA's e-business infrastructure offerings, such as Orbix 2000 and the iPortal Suite," said Ed Gaudet, vice president of worldwide marketing for IONA. "Elastic expands IONA's presence into their high growth market sector, and we look forward to working with Elastic to meet the needs of our mutual customers."
